Macramé made its comeback a year or two ago in an unexpected way – plant-holders. Sydney artist Melissa Carey offers aspiring crafters the chance to weave their own woolen hangings at a hands-on beginners workshop. It is run from her shared warehouse, The Nest Creative Space in Alexandria, and other locations across Sydney. Carey’s classes provide all the essentials for a session of ‘70s-inspired weaving: 100 per cent recycled yarn, a set of instructions, homemade delights and herbal tea. If macramé isn’t your style, Carey also runs candle-making workshops that include vintage glassware in which to set your eco-friendly creations.
